I think this two story tiny barn house with a loft is a great example of tiny house design and living because there’s no unnecessary space left in designs like this. You get what you absolutely need and nothing else. And this one is well done, too with beautiful decorations. The only downside is that in this case you’ve got a separate structure as an outhouse and shower that’s just a few steps away. And it has nice views of the mountains and sunsets next to Joshua Tree National Park.

This tiny barn is available to stay in, too. Click here for more info.

This rustic and modern tiny house has its own entrance and private front yard which is gated. The owners built it on their property because they always wanted to build a house themselves and they did it with the help of friends. When you first enter the house you’re in the kitchen, living area and that’s also where the bathroom is. Go upstairs and you’ve got a sweet loft with a queen bed.

It was built using mostly reclaimed materials and furnishings. Some of the wood, trim and shelving came from an old shed that used to be on the property. More “unwanted” wood was harvested from high end construction job sites. Some of the windows came from an old horse farm structure. And the kitchen stove and refrigerator came from a museum.

I can imagine living so peacefully in a wooden cabin or cottage just like this out in the forest near a river or a lake. At times I would miss being near the city but in this particular spot they say it is just 10 minutes from the nearest town. It’s a one bedroom cottage in Thailand in Chiang Mai. I like the modern look and feel and the solar panels that fit right into the roof’s design making them seamless. And also that even though it’s very modern looking it has wood on the exterior to still preserve that cabin feel. What’s your favorite part about it?

I just love this 2 story log cabin home. It has two loft style bedrooms on the second floor and there’s a downstairs sleeping area too. The bathroom is pretty modern for a log cabin in my opinion but I think it’s perfect. I’d love to have a small cabin like this on my own property somewhere in a peaceful setting near a lake or in the forest. One of my favorite parts about it is the upstairs balcony. DIY Modern Micro Cabin up in the Trees

“It is technically not a treehouse, but rather a house up in the trees given we did not use a tree as a support, BUT, we still call it the treehouse; one word. I know, we are annoying that way.

The platform is 8 x 12 and the house part is 8 x 8 feet – We chose these dimensions to minimize waste by using standard, big box lumber lengths.” (source)

For me living simply in a micro cabin like this one off the grid is a little unrealistic. This is mostly because because there’s no kitchen although there is a grill on the property to cook and you can use the outdoor space to prep, etc. Or even create an additional tiny kitchen structure to fix this issue so it’s definitely possible for me with a few adjustments and additions. On the property is a nearby solar shower and composting toilet which is pretty awesome. More info on this micro cabin here.

I thought you’d also enjoy this modern day version of a Thoreau cabin. No amenities just pure and simple. A micro cabin to sleep and write in. Personally I’d love to spend some time with myself in something like this. Maybe even use that time to write, reflect and plan. How about you? This would also be really cool to have in your current backyard if you’re allowed to. It’s pretty stealthy too. Looks like a tiny barn shed for storage. More info on this modern day solar cabin here.

If you know me you already know that I love it when old things are renovated, rehabbed and transformed into something that can be used today. For me, this is more amazing than a brand spanking new tiny home with materials from any of the big name home improvement stores (although I still enjoy those a lot, too). There’s just something about taking some old and putting in the labor to bring it back to life that makes it extra special. More info on this circus caravan turned to tiny cabin here.

Matt built this cabin himself on a twin axle flat bed trailer. It has a completely functional kitchen and bathroom with composting toilet. It even has hot and running cold water. Watch the video tour below to get the complete look and feel of it, I think you’ll find it pretty amazing (I did).

The cabin has a 490watt solar system and is parked by his yurt which I think is such a perfect combination. In total he spent just about $4,080 to build it. More photos and info over here at Matt’s blog.

I thought you’d also love this 273 sq. ft. tiny apartment that this small family lives in in Warsaw, Poland. Even though it’s a tiny space the furniture and design really makes the most of it and it actually looks and feels quite spacious for its size. The big box functions as a bed and storage.  Even the staircase that leads you up to the bed has drawers built in so it’s easy to get up there (even for the dog) and it makes the best use of space possible. This gypsy caravan isn’t really completely set up for full time living. At least not for me. But it does offer you a queen bed, mini-fridge, tea & coffee and separate bathroom/toilet. I think it’s great as a micro guesthouse or cabin to have in the backyard of your current home. It can also double as a getaway. At home away from home sort of thing. If I wanted to make it a little more permanent I’d probably build another one right beside it to use as the shower, bathroom and kitchen facilities. Then one more as a really tiny office space where I can work, write, read and study. How about you?

This to me is an absolute dreamy apartment. I love the white color throughout because it makes it feels more open and spacious. And I also like the location because it’s by the beach. If you know me, you know I love being close to the water.. Especially the ocean. Another reason I like this conversion so much is that it used to be a basement! And for me it’s always exciting to see people convert their garages, basements, sheds and turn them into something so beautiful, useful and functional like this. The gypsy micro caravan I showed you earlier is a bit too small for full time living but this one seems spacious enough to actually live a simple life in much like a tiny house on wheels or on a foundation. I could see myself living in something like this if it’s just me or even Andrea and I but it’s definitely too small IMO to have a family in. In that case I’d change it up towards a small house around 800 sq. ft. or so.
