Tiny Airstream Cabin in the Farm

Here’s an Airstream that’s currently being used exactly how I’d use a tiny house.

I’d park it by a deck and I’d actually hardly ever move it. If I had an Airstream, I’d probably move it quite a bit!

But this little Airstream is for rent in Altadena, California as a vacation rental.

This modern container house in Spain is not tiny but it’s certainly unique and awesome. It still seems like a relatively small home but the design is so unique that it’s hard for me to even guess the sq. ft. It’s a one bedroom one bath house with one of a kind features.

There’s a rooftop patio area that’s really nice where you can grill and chill along with a really small swimming pool to cool off in.

The kitchen is compact yet open. The bathroom is really unique as well. Learn more, see more pics and book your stay here.

Deek’s $300 “Shroom Room” Micro Cabin in VT

This is one of two micro cabins that were started at one of Deek’s workshops on his property in Vermont last year. He recently went back to do some finishing work on it the other weekend. AND I wanted to be sure you were aware that he’s hosting another hands on workshop over at his home/backyard near Boston. Really worth it if you can make it..

On the shroom room micro cabin you can get more pics and info on it here at Deek’s original post on it. If you want to attend his next hands on workshop near Boston get the sign up info here. If you don’t already own Deek’s book, check it out here.

How to Compost your Poop: The Humanure Handbook

the-humanure-handbook

If you’re seriously considering living off the grid, building an outhouse, or building a tiny house/cabin.. Then you might be considering the option of composting toilets.

This way not only are you helping the environment by making good use out of your poo instead of flushing it down with clean water or even worse improperly disposing human waste. After you read this book you’ll understand how to properly compost your own human waste and even better how you can make good use of it!

If you’re a complete beginner to how composting toilets work I explain it all quite simply in this post right here.

If you’re wanting to explore other toilet options, too, check out this post by Cori.

Another benefit you can get out of using a composting toilet is that you don’t have to install complicated plumbing for your cabin, tiny house or outhouse. It can be a surprisingly simple and inexpensive toilet system.

Tiny Houses & Your Lover: Convincing, Waiting or Meeting in Between?

tiny-house-on-blocks-project

I want you to meet Chris & Kristen. They’re a young couple who are building a tiny house on blocks. They’re still in the construction phase so be sure to add them to your watch list. Instead of building on wheels they decided to build on blocks. And they can always move it later or maybe even attach it to a trailer if they really wanted to.

Making a Deal with your Spouse/Significant Other on Building a Tiny House

But what I really wanted you to read was how they got to the point to where they decided to start building a tiny home. I always find it fascinating the way that we have to sometimes convince our significant others to go for the lifestyle. And this is one of the best blog posts I’ve read on that topic (if you have more, please share the links in the comments).

Convincing your Partner and Meeting Somewhere In Between

Chris could have gone even smaller than what they’re building right now considering he’s lived out of a van before. Kristen wasn’t willing to go that far. So they had to meet in between.

And meeting in between looks different for everybody. So please don’t compare your situation to others because they’re all unique..

Anyways do yourself a favor and read this entire post on how Chris & Kristen made a decision on starting their tiny house project.

Your Thoughts on Couples Living in Tiny Houses

Then if you want share your thoughts and ideas on how you’ve had to convince, be patient, or simply meet in-between with your significant other and your tiny house dreams. We’d all love for you to share in the comments.

You’re Pretty Lucky, If..

One thing I think is fair to say is this, if you love tiny houses and are in a relationship with someone who’s also down to live tiny (shout out to Chris & Malissa!), you can consider yourself pretty lucky! So go give your partner a big hug when you see him/her next! (Actually I think you should probably do that whether or not they wanna live tiny with you.) :D

Modern.. Yet Simple

It’s a two bedroom small house with an island kitchen in the center of the floor plan. I like that. You can see the floor plan here. In addition to the two bedrooms there’s loft space that can also be utilized. It can be another bedroom, guest room, study, or playroom for kids. Notice the staircase to the loft in the photo above. The kitchen looks great. The only downfall for me is that the bathroom and shower is separate from the house but at least it’s nearby. Learn more about this small house and see more photos here.

The Tack House is a 140 sq. ft. tiny home on a trailer. The trailer is 7′ x 20′.

The gable roof and dormers really add to it and must make it feel spacious in the loft.

There’s also extra storage space because of the dormers too which is awesome.

This tiny house has a total of 11 windows including a skylight.

Check out the latest photos of Chris & Malissa’s tiny home on wheels.

All in One Micro Kitchen Units Great for Tiny Homes?

mobilspazio-mini-kitchens

I just ran into these mini kitchens by a company called Mobilspazio Contract. These kitchen units are great for tiny houses and any small multi-functional space because the entire kitchen can actually be hidden with your choice of a:

  • sliding shutter,
  • hinged door,
  • ledge door,
  • or pocket door.

I like the shutter option. Mobilspazio has been known for creating furniture for hotels. I can see how some of their products might work great for tiny houses, too. What do you think?

Modern Space Saving Wall Desk for Tiny Homes?

modern-wall-mount-desk-for-tiny-houses

I’m excited to share this modern wall desk that might work great for a lot of us who still want a desk in a tiny house or any other type of small space. A lot of times in micro apartments and cabins there’s just not enough room for a dedicated office. I think a wall mounted desk looks better, especially in a multifunctional living space. Another option is to simply use your table as a desk. This way you don’t have to have two similar pieces of furniture. But some people still might want to consider something like this.

Learn more and consider ordering one for yourself here. MSRP is $547 but check current price here.

Ever think about adding solar power to your future tiny house or cabin? Did you know that solar shingles now exist and are becoming available? So you know what my next question is… Would you consider using these for your future home? I really like the seamless design and how you wouldn’t have to attach extra panels to your roof or anything. I’m always up to consider an all-in-one solution like this. Or just about anything that makes more use out of the same thing. And this accomplishes just that!

It even has a California King sized bed inside along with a private bathroom with shower, refrigerator, coffee maker, and more… Yes. It’s one of those vacation rentals that are out there (there are so many!!). I just thought, wow, what a great example of what you can do with something that’s old and unused. I love Airstreams because they’re such a great example of what you can do with something that already exists. But not only that, if you’re like me and you like to travel on the road, this is a much better option for you than building a stick built house on a trailer because of weight and aerodynamics.

But this particular Airstream doesn’t usually go anywhere. It sits in the backyard of a home in Ashland, Oregon and is available as a vacation rental. So I’m not sure that they’ll let you tow and go with it!

Rent this Airstream here.
