Our home like many in the neighborhood is small. Our home of thirty years is 800 square feet. Small, cosy, two bedroom, one bath a working class home built in the 1930′s. My hubby needed a space for having his cigar and whiskey where the smoke wouldn’t be a nuisance. Here is the 60 square foot solution created with a number of reclaimed windows and door. It is a sunny, dry place to enjoy a few friends and the expansive back yard no matter what the weather is. Three comfy chairs and a couple of ottomans fill the space. I think the next one built needs to be a craft space for myself.

Tiny Homes as a Tool for Artists and Creative Entrepreneurs

AP Photo (Source)
My absolute favorite thing about tiny houses is the freedom that they offer people who want them. Some people just don’t get it. They see teeny tiny houses as voluntary jail cells.
But we, as artists, see them as a gateway to freedom. They’re a way for us to live life how we want instead of how society demands us to live.
So I’m leaving you with a question today. How do you see a tiny house as a tool for yourself? Why do you want to live tiny? What do you want to use one of these little houses to achieve? A simpler life? A better career? Share in the comments below.

Pull Out Table for Small Kitchens
I just had to share this pull out table in this really small kitchen. It’s a great idea that any of us can utilize in a tiny house kitchen. In this case it looks like this is a small apartment, studio or flat. Either way it’s a fantastic way to double up on space when it’s limited.

The Opera Pop Up Camper: Lightweight Expanding Travel Trailer
“The Opera is a mobile designer suite in a class of her own. Within minutes, she will show you her characteristic outlines, resting firmly on her legs in a level position. The teak veranda is an invitation for you to come on board, where you’ll be amazed by the luxury and detail. Such as the two electrically adjustable beds that can easily be transformed into one. Or the boiler supplying warm water to the kitchen, the fountain and the (exterior) shower. The hot air heating.
The ceramic toilet. The top loading refrigerator. The low-energy LED lighting from awning to floor. The Opera offers you the convenience of a complete holiday home.” (Source)

Tiny House on Wheels Moving to Vancouver Island
“That’s right- the tiny house (that used to be on the prairies) is planning on another move! We’ve loved being in the Okanagan for the summer- family, fruit, wine, traveling, the beach, sunshine, more fruit- it’s been wonderful. Although we just arrived here in June, the plan all along has been to move further west to the Island. So the tiny house will be on the road again!
So, we’re looking for a place to host this little beauty in the Victoria, BC area come mid-September. We’re also open to other locations on the Island, if there’s a spot available. We don’t need much: a parking spot, water and electrical connections, and if possible a place to compost our composting toilet stuff. We’re easy-going people and flexible for a variety of arrangements. We’re hoping to be on the Island for at least a year, and possibly even longer.
If you know of anyone/anyone who knows anyone/a farm/an acreage that might be interested in hosting us, please contact us! You can best reach us at kyleandjessicajang@gmail.com.
Hope everyone is having a great summer!
-Jessica” (source)

English Shepherds Hut Tiny House for sale
I have built several tiny houses on trailers and I have now built what is, to the best of my research, the first English Shepherds Hut in America. These Huts have become wildly popular in England in recent years and have all types of uses including: guest house, spare bedroom, personal retreat, special work space for writers, artists, therapists, etc, plus all kind of business uses like food service, dry goods store or information center.
The exterior is 7′.5 wide and 14′ long and the interior is 83″ wide by 13 ft long. The interior has been left unfinished so it can be truly personalized to the new owners needs. I can finish it for any type of personal or business use or you can complete it yourself. The hut has custom high end metal wheels and a classic turntable steering system and tow bar. This Hut has a Dutch door, also
known as stable door and four insulated glass double hung Pella windows. The roof is a metal rustic copper style. The price is $12,500. Please contact Bill 303 532 8730 or by55555@hotmail.com

Little Green Cabin: Modern Guest House
“The guest house was completed in 2012 and provides private space for guests and a remote study for the owner.
The form of the guest house was inspired by an Anselm Kiefer painting. On a lead sheet at the center of the artist’s work, a chalk outline of a cube was drawn with diagonally opposite corners chamfered. Transferred to a small structure the cleaving of the corners offered a unique way of both entering and lighting the interior.
The lower level has a two-story entry space, sleeping niche, laundry, toileting, and shower. A stair leads to an upper level study and sleeping loft.” (Source)

Little Retro Kitchen
“ lot of people like cool and trendy things from the past. Things and interiors from 1960s looks great even nowadays especially if they are made from contemporary high quality materials. When it comes to kitchens the retro design is quite popular. It isn’t hard to make your kitchen looks retro. Even modern glossy kitchen furniture can be combined with retro appliances, items of decor and tiles. There are manufacturers who produce retro fridges, ovens and other appliances so they aren’t hard to find. To complete the retro look of your kitchen you can find some of these old radiators that in modern interiors looks ugly but are perfect to add a retro touch.” (Source)

Little Vermont Cabin: 850 Sq Ft in the Mountains
Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 100 movies. Brand new, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!
Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it’s size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.
4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.” (Source)

Cute Colorful Cottage
Isn’t this little cottage so fun looking? Seems like anyone who’d step foot near it or in it wouldn’t be able to help but smile. But that might just be me. And you.. I wish we could go inside but unfortunately we can’t.
But while we’re looking at it I’m curious if you’d make your future tiny house anywhere near as colorful as this? I think it helps bring life to the structure for sure. This one looks like it belongs in the Florida Keys. Or here.

“The cozy and clean semi-rustic cabin has a loft under a geodesic dome (the “mushroom cap”). We have recently lined the interior ceiling with 144 (!) plywood triangles. In the loft is a double bed, which is a cotton futon with 1″ of latex foam and 21/2″ gel memory foam on top. (It is now softer for you folks who like a soft cushiony bed.) We provide clean sheets and pillow cases: you can chose either smooth cotton sheets or cotton flannel. Plenty of blankets are also provided.
In the loft, we have a 24″ Flat Screen with a DVD player (no TV) for movies. (We have lots of movies you can view as well.)
On the main floor (a Pentagon) is a couch that doubles as a narrow futon (which could sleep a third person for an extra $10. a night), as well as a mini kitchenette. Here you will find a professional double hotplate, small refrigerator, toaster oven, blender, Hot Air Popcorn Popper, French Coffee press, a salad spinner – even a mixer- and all the dishes and equipment you would need to prepare a snack or a meal or to open a glass of wine. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We now have a barbecue grill on the deck. We also provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, almonds, raisins, butter, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter.
The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and flushing boat toilet. We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6′ you may have to do a little ducking here and there.)” (Source)

If, like me, you’ve also thought about other alternative structures you’re probably also interested in yurts. They don’t work very well in my hometown (Florida) but I’d definitely consider them for other parts of the world. Wooden yurt cabins are also really cool.
