How would you like to stay in a tiny cottage like this? Even better, wouldn’t it be cool to own one?

Even if it weren’t your only home. If it was something extra in your backyard for guests. But you can do so much more.

It’s got a gable roof and has that cottage style to it.

It can be used as an office, tiny home, library or art space.

“What began as a kitchen remodel within a historic Aspen mining cottage grew to involve a series of artist studio studies for the backyard of the quaint Hyman Avenue residence known as the Pink House. Two very unique directions were initially investigated in direct response to budget concerns and alternate programmatic directions. Incorporating LEED inspired responses and solutions to take advantage of solar paths and materials with high performance returns was a priority. The final 500 sq ft gable-massed solution was a direct response to the surrounding historical neighborhood context and heavy evergreen forestation of the studio project site.” (Source)

Water Recycling Toilet-Sink: Great for Tiny Houses

Wanted to show you this water recycling toilet-sink design because I think it’s great for tiny houses.

You probably already get it but the neatest part about it is that it recycled the grey water that’s used when you wash your hands, brush teeth, etc and uses that water to flush the toilet.

I think this is genius because it’s a great way to use our current infrastructure (plumbing) and still reduce our water usage.

Another thing I like about this particular design is that it’s still practical.

I just like how it separates going to the bathroom and using the sink where as some other designs aren’t designed as well (see below) where you have to pretty much reach over the toilet to wash your hands (even though this is even more space saving).

Which one would you rather have and why? What are your thoughts on water recycling toilets versus composting?

Ladders to sleeping lofts in tiny houses seem to frighten a lot of people.

Tiny house builders and designers have been responding with creative solutions for this.

Sleeping lofts are big space savers in tiny homes so it’s challenging to just take them out of the picture although you can and many folks have.

In this case Tiny Green Cabins has designed and built a staircase to the loft with built in storage drawers. Genius idea and excellent execution.

Washer and Dryer in a Tiny House

I love how they were able to fit a washer and a dryer in such a small space. There are all-in-one units that can save you space but they take 2-4 times as long to dry your clothes and they don’t do as great of a job. Anyways I talk a little more about them in this post.

I know this isn’t very realistic for full time living but I still like to feature micro cabins because it’s always possible for something like this to exist and be used if there are other structures on the property.

How do you feel about that? How could you handle having to walk to another structure for bathing, preparing food and doing laundry?

For those of you who like gypsy wagons this is a pretty neat one and would probably cost less than $5,000 to build.

It can even cost less if you look for reclaimed materials and get a used trailer. But even if you ended up buying new materials you can probably still keep it under $5,000 or so.

The only downside to these are that the roofs need constant attention or at least that’s what I would imagine. You can always build a wood roof though but if it’s canvas you just have to watch out for leaks.

What do you like best about gypsy wagons and what would you use one for?

This 1250 square feet cabin was built in 2010 with cedar cladding and metal panels. I like how they used light and dark colors for accents. The cabin seems to blend in nicely with its surroundings with a modern, natural look.

“The clients, a professional weaver and her husband, nearing a full-time move to San Juan, requested a studio space which would house all of her weaving tools: looms, dying facilities, a sewing/assembly area, and an office. It would also act as a gallery for her work as well as a meeting space for her weaving guild meetings, and in addition to the weaving studio requirements, the clients also requested an overflow bedroom for guests.”

I’m so excited to share this tiny adventure cabin with you. I absolutely love every part of it. It has an amazing lake view and an awesome porch to enjoy the outdoors in.

There’s enough room upstairs for a really spacious sleeping loft/bedroom area and I also like the skylight and the kayaks waiting outside.

Wouldn’t you just love to have this either as your full time cabin or as an inexpensive place to own and escape to for part of the year every year?
