800 square feet Small Cottage Design from 1924

1924 by Stetson & Post Lumber, Seattle

This design is called the Rainier View.

I love what the folks over at Antique Home Style have to say about it,

“About the only change we would make to this tiny cottage bungalow would be to add windows to the kitchen nook on three sides. There are two bedrooms with closets (both of which have windows for ventilation) and space for a fireplace if desired. There is approximately 800 sf of living space equivalent to many modern two -bedroom apartments and large enough to house one or two people comfortably. Sweet!” (Source)

I thought I would share this unique compact kitchen design because I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I’m not actually sure that I even like it or would consider it but I can see how the quirky design would be useful.

Do you think something like this would be worth it in a tiny house? I wish we could see the rest of the home. My guess is that it’s a motorhome or some sort of Park Model mobile or manufactured home.

Modern Tiny House in Woods: Wedge Cabin

weird-home

This is a unique “wedge” tiny cabin was designed by architect Wendell Lovett in Bellevue, Washington.

I like the cabin feel. I also really like the wedge shape. To me, it’s kind of the same satisfaction I get from an A-frame.

It also has this treehouse experience to it because of the surroundings and the way that wood was used in the exterior.

The more I look at it and write to you about it, the more I’m liking it.

My guess would be that this tiny house is around 200 square feet. And it also has a pretty spacious outdoor area. So what do you like about this house?

Modern Vacation Cabin on the Water

I thought some of you, like me, would enjoy looking at this modern small house.

It’s a vacation spot in a place called Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa. It’s in North Huvadhoo (Gaafu Alifu), Republic of Maldives in the Indian Ocean.

I got to learn about a new place today. It’s a small island where you can easily walk around to different places.

There are reefs for great snorkeling and I hear the food and drinks are all inclusive.

I just thought it was a great structure to share but if you’re interested in staying here you can get more info here. You can also see more photos from travelers who have been there here. It seems very luxurious so I’m sure it’s pricey to go. But seems worth the experience if you have the money.

Here’s a neat little house with log cabin siding that is located by the beach on Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The photo was sent in by one of our awesome readers on our Facebook Page so I thought I’d share it with you all.

It looks like it might be a park model home so it probably sits on a trailer so it’s still mobile you just need a special license to move it since it seems wider than 8’6″.

I wanted to share Timothy’s tiny house design with you today. I got to meet him at the Atlantia, Georgia Tiny Home Builders workshop earlier this year.

He ended up purchasing Dan’s Tinier Living plans and made some adjustments which I think are awesome. And if you ever needed or wanted to it seems like you’d be able to detach and roll the home away.

This works well for so many things because you can live in it, take it on vacation, and even use it as an emergency shelter or “bug out” house in the event of an emergency.

Read the original post on Timothy’s tiny house right here.

Thanks to a reader for submitting this beautiful shot of a classic Renault motorhome. Wouldn’t it be awesome to own something like this if it was in such great condition like this one seems to be in? Or if you took the time, money and effort to restore it yourself.

What are your thoughts on converting a motorhome into a “tiny house” versus building a stick built one on a trailer?

Thought I would inform you that at Jay Shafer’s upcoming workshop in California this August 10-11, 2013, you’ll get to also go on a tour to see a bunch of tiny houses on a field trip the entire group will be taking.

Little things like that are what make certain workshops special to me, in my opinion. So I wanted to be sure you knew you could have this opportunity to see a variety of little homes on trailers while hanging out with Jay and a bunch of other tiny house enthusiasts.

Hello my name is Don and I live in the Okanagan Valley of BC Canada. I was in the market for a tiny off grid home. In preparation for moving from 2300 sq ft to 600 sq ft I moved into the 300 sq ft students suite in the basement of my home. Unfortunately the deal on the off grid cabin fell through and now I will have to wait until next spring to give it another try. What I found was living in 300 sq ft is very doable. It is just me and my Border Collie. My girlfriend has a home in another town so she is not here full time. A small living room with TV and desk, a full size bedroom with a queen bed, and a kitchen/laundry room. The kitchen does not have a stove but a induction hot plate, microwave and small fridge. I have my own entrance and BBQ. No fridge space means shopping more often. It has definitely helped me eat better! Because of the small space, it has driven me outside more often. Both myself and the dog are better for it! Now the amazing thing. I have now rented the top level of my house for $1000.00 per month and the test is over as I am now living in my new small space full time. This is kind of upside down as most I know live in the larger portion of the house and rent the suite, Not Me! By the time I find my dream cabin I will be a pro at living in a small space. Not to mention a little bit richer in many way.

This is a genuine tiny house my Father showed to me while visiting family in my hometown of Fort Wayne, IN. If you are in the area, it’s closest to Wayne & Broadway. The house is currently being restored by the Fort Wayne Historical Society and is closed for viewing other than outside. I believe it was a railroad worker’s house and included two levels. There appears to be some reworking done on one wall. There are many structures like that out here in the country and area!

Here’s a tiny cabin/treehouse that I thought you would like. Although it was obviously built for kids, wouldn’t it make a great cabin/retreat?

And for those of us who want an off grid cabin, this would be a pretty neat way to do it. Even if it’s done with stilts instead of trees.

I just like the elevation and the views that go along with it. I’m curious, what unique ideas do you have that make your future tiny/small house or cabin funky and different?

For me this is the ultimate getaway/retreat when you really want to unplug and get away from it all.

I’d come here and shut off my phone and just relax either by myself or with someone special to me.

It seems like a great place to recharge the batteries, read, relax, reflect and maybe even create and plan.

If you’re interested in staying at this eco lodge you can get more info here.

There’s something about this little dome home that resonates with me so well.

It seems so much more spacious than it actually is. Still small, but not tiny.

Lots of open space but still plenty of separation so a family can be comfortable here.

“Solar panels located at the top of the roof are connected to the hot water tank, providing toilet facilities and kitchen with warm water. Drainage system which is located around the perimeter can be connected to rainwater collection tank.” (Source)

“Shape of the building provides natural air exchange. The fresh air supply to the building is provided through 4 points by underground duct system which provides the heating of fresh air during the winter and cooling in summer. At the top of the dome adjustable vertical communication channel is provided for used air. Heating – fireplace with warm air heating pipe system.” (Source)

This tiny house is located in New York and is currently available for purchase at an asking price of $32,000 which I believe is fair for a completed tiny home like this.

The trailer with tongue is 24′ long and the actual home is approximately 20′ x 8′. It’s got an upstairs sleeping loft and an open living area.

It also has a bathroom, kitchen and all the features and appliances that you’d want in a cabin or home. If you want to learn more about this cottage on wheels you can get more details and photos here at the original listing.

Thought you would also like this shipping container to tiny cabin conversion over in Bonaire.

I absolutely love the way they did it. It looks like they used two containers but my favorite part is the outdoor space that wraps around the structure.

That’s where I’d spend most of my time. Enjoying the views and the fresh air.
